"Hi my name is Zinhle Zulu, people also call me Zhi. My favourite colour is green, by the way. I'm an (Loerie-award winning) illustrator from Johannesburg. Since I was 12- years- old, I wanted to draw and gradually manifested the desire to illustrate. Fast forward a few years and I obtained my Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Visual Communication, majoring in Illustration, from the Open Window Institute. I recently completed my Masters in Visual Communication with University of Johannesburg, (hopefully) soon to be conferred.
I was one of five artists chosen to design and illustrate an area of the Maboneng precinct. I got to work with a team to bring my illustration to a massive mural there.
I’ve worked with the David Krut gallery on a screen-print series called The Curious Five which was inspired by the portrayal of tourism in Africa. These works are exhibited at their gallery and at the annual Turbine Art Fair. I'm a contributing artist to the Wanderland collective- a luxury (local) textile brand which has printed my illustrations on scarves, purses and coffee cups. I'm currently part of a group show called Through the Window: A collection of Visual Narratives at Gallery 2."
